The Rare Culture of Commitment

“The youth of today are the hope of tomorrow.”
We encourage our players to keep their heads down, focused, and immersed in the work, but sometimes, you must look up for a second and see how far you have come. The group is hungrier to work and more eager to compete than ever, which is not always the posture of young athletes looking to keep their egos intact.
In this bubble of high performance, it usually takes an outside eye to remind you of the unique nature of what you are doing. The text below is a beautiful example:
“Found your breakdown Tuesday evening so interesting and packed with information… While you spoke about how important it is to recognize what moment you're in and the presence you give off, I would challenge all of your athletes(savages) to never forget how important the moment is. And not just the big ones, but the ones that they are lucky enough to have so frequently that they become routine.
Seeing a bunch of kids so bought into getting better together blew my mind. I haven’t stopped thinking about it. That group has something I would’ve died for when I was younger. A group to grind with instead of having to do it myself. They’re not doing anything different than what you and I did. We skipped parties, hangouts, etc the same way they do. But we did it alone and they have a village.
Challenge them to never forget to take that step back and look at who they are surrounded by, where they are, what they’re doing. It’s so easy to let moments become routine, our own presence becomes routine. Those moments won’t last forever, look around before they are gone…”
What an awesome message. And one where the spirit is so antithetical to our current culture among the youth.
Kids constantly looking for the next trend, uncommitted to anything, believing ‘it is not cool to care or try hard…’ the list could go on and on describing the disorientation of our distracted youth. Most pointed in the opposite direction of a life of meaning and order.
Here, there is a group locked in on task and purpose, committed almost unconditionally, regardless of good or bad days they keep showing up, and the currency for a good reputation is passion and effort! Nobody is scared to LOVE the process and people they are around. For someone who hasn’t seen it, the culture is special.
This is why we think missing a day, or week, or months has incalculable opportunity costs.
Although the training does not take away the daily struggles of being a HS or MS kid, who they are when facing the challenge is different. The group continues to inspire something more than just lacrosse. They know they are capable of doing hard things. All have found a smile during brutal running, or picked their spirits up after constant failure in a drill… These lessons stack and stack to create some very special kids.
“The youth of today are the hope of tomorrow.”
With 4 new college commitments, and more coming this year, we are proud of all these players have accomplished and are set to accomplish in the future.
Appreciate all the families who are involved, we look forward to those who will be joining as fall sports end.
Thank you for sharing our information with any families who would be interested in joining.
