“Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” – John C. Maxwell
Weekend training will stand as a consistent opportunity for Fall sport athletes, out of town families, and our regular crew to continue sharpening their skills heading into the fall and winter season.
Until otherwise adjusted, our aim is for Saturday to begin with a Youth / Intro offensive session, followed by an Elite MS + HS offensive / Defensive session.
Sunday will begin later, going from 12:00 - 3:00PM.
Ideally, lacrosse does not conflict with Church and Sunday plans. However, us coaches do not own a TV and have little to no interest in NFL games, so we apologize in advance for any missed snaps.
To highlight the unique culture we are attempting to build. This past weekend we were leading a day of “team bonding.” Our focus was for them to have fun, but also leave with two takeaways. One was a “team challenge.” Meaning something that forces you to bend a decision or two daily to the team's mission. I gave examples such as “Drink a gallon of water daily,” “Do 10 minutes of extra work…” All examples that were NOT excessive, BUT, served as reminders that you are a part of something bigger than yourself and it deserves you at your best. That being said, the point of the exercise was not clicking… The challenges given were not real challenges, none were actually calling them to MORE.
I had to share momentarily about our players who wake up daily to train 4+ hours, this being an expectation, and ON TOP of that are given “personal challenges” to attack weaknesses. Whether that is extra fitness, focused skill work, shots, breath work, dialed in nutrition… The list goes on.
Stepping into a challenge is not foreign or looked at as punishment. It is why you are a part of the academy. To be pushed and nearly broken, while simultaneously built through daily triumph and encouragement. Players show up to see how great they can be, not just “participate.”
Many people would be shocked to hear our…. “1-2 hours of wall ball this evening would be the ideal, and it is something you CAN do. Unless you show us your screen time and it is1 hour… you CAN fit the wall ball in.”
This summer has been inspiring and exceeded expectations in many ways. But, this is not said in a way that we wish summer would never end. It must end, and we are excited for what is possible because of the seeds that have been planted.
The fall/winter will bring many new challenges.
Even the highest levels of toughness are tested on those cold dark evenings. But, the friendship, the memories, and the mandate of life to make the most of every moment keeps the fire burning.
May we stay strong in faith!
“But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.
And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” – Luke 22:32
*head nod - cheers, to another day of praying that the faith of our players will not fail. There is a lot always being demanded of them, and the future looks bright!
