July Thoughts - Conscious Endeavor

With the summer wrapping up we will be sharing information about the fall schedule, a winter preview, and scholarship opportunities in the coming days.

"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor."

July:

  • Weight room programming continues to challenge players in more ways than we had expected. Harrison and I participate in the lifts daily, and I always find myself contrasting the efforts with what we did in preparation for our return to UNC. Our athletes could not be training better for the sport of lacrosse. We are proud and grateful for what Brett is building.

  • The theme for skill work recently has been 'fight battles now, so you do not have to fight them in the future.’

  • Meaning: face to face with your weaknesses. There is no avoiding what is demanded of you the higher you climb in the sport. Passing and catching with both hands is critical. 9:30-10:30 players battle.

  • I continue to learn more about what I teach. The details that are important seem to be more obvious by the day.

  • “The more I focus on the details, the more important those details seem to be.'

  • SEPARATOR: An inclination for training hard.

  • Something we share frequently, ‘just because you are here, does not mean you receive the same benefits as everyone else.’

  • Those who have a posture of intensity and a sincere focus on improvement will far surpass the average.

  • PSA : We are grateful for those who “drop in” and come to train once or twice a week from 10:00-12:30, BUT it is important for those players to understand that we have a group that works from 8:00-12:30 HARD 4-5x a week and the seriousness of training cannot drop because you are there.

  • If there is no ‘drop in’ option, that is an indicator that we want to make sure those with memberships have a great day of training with limited distractions.

  • This is not a labeling of your player being a ‘distraction,’ but the protection of a core group's environment.

  • We will be inclined to have “drop in” options every day if we can be confident that those who come are there to work and not mess around.

  • A line we remind our players of weekly: “Being great is fun, becoming great does not have to be.”

Future: (More details to come)

  • After school schedule.

  • ‘Waterfall start.’

  •  Most players arrive between 3:45-4:30, and they will begin their strength and speed training with Brett as soon as they arrive.

  • End around 6:45/7:00

  • Saturday YOUTH sessions. (Under the 6th grade)

  • Fall/Winter league registration is coming soon.

  • Scholarship opportunities.

  • For those committed to train until the 2025 season we want it to be financially comfortable and are equally ALL IN on making that possible. A ‘Forms’ will be shared next week with the steps to take.

  • We can’t wait to see what is possible over the next 30+ weeks, it will be greater than we could imagine.
