One of my favorite declarations at training is the reminder “I would be a bad friend if I just gave up on telling you this…” ‘This’ refers to a technique or small motion that a player has yet to fully integrate. `This’ meaning what can take someone to the next level.
Today, some believe you are expertly leading by making life easier in every way. However, what we have seen to be the most fruitful is the exact opposite. You take them fight to fight, showing what must be done for victory, but not taking away any of the battle.
This is what our sessions are all about. Not making lacrosse easier, or telling a player “you are so great,” instead, revealing where ground can be taken, and empowering action through the hopeful truth ‘you are capable of doing this, and doing it well.”
"I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it." — Thomas Jefferson,
Continual forward motion takes an immense amount of effort, and what got someone “here” will not get them “there.” Hiding these facts from players is the greatest regret we would ever have at the Cincinnati Lacrosse Academy. Harrison and I were fortunate to hear this truth. It takes work, and we are thankful to be able to deliver this to players every week. Walking alongside them into the battles they will face - equipping and preparing.
Looking forward to this week. Another great opportunity.
Grace and Peace,
